In 1928, a schoolhouse was
constructed to consolidate seven one-room school buildings in the
town of Putnam. Each school building was constructed for school age
children who lived around one mile from these schools.
There were seven districts until 1929, when all of the districts
were consolidated into what is now
"Putnam Central School District". At this time, the Putnam school
included grades 1-8 and the eighth grade teacher was the principal
of the entire school. Students in 9th and 10th grade attended school
in the "Putnam Town Hall" and the 11th and 12th graders were
transported to the Ticonderoga High School. Shortly thereafter, the
9th and 1Oth graders were tuitioned to Ticonderoga as well.
In 1954, the 7th-8th grade classes were transported to Ticonderoga
where they attended what is now the ground floor of the high school.
Later, these grades were transported to the Ticonderoga Middle
School, where Putnam's 7th and 8th grade students now attend.
Today, Putnam Central School District provides services for
approximately 100 students.
